Apologies to Le Corbusier
Carlo Ratti Associati is an innovation and design consultancy firm based in
Turin, Boston and London. Drawing on Carlo Ratti’s research at the MIT Senseable
City Lab, the studio aims to push boudaries in the interaction between people
and the built environment.
CRA’s mission is to improve the daily life of citizens through a wide range of
technologies from unconventional materials to digital fabrication, from
ubiquitous computing to genomics. Within this framework, the scales of
intervention can vary immensely: from masterplanning to architecture, from
product design to research, always looking for the next frontier.
Our projects include robotic bartenders (Makr Shakr, the world’s first robotic
bar system), wheels that thrust (Copenhagen Wheel, a rear wheel that converts
any bike into an electric hybrid), supermarkets that talk to us (Future Food
District, one of the thematic areas of Expo Milan 2015), buildings that float
(Digital Water Pavillion, the info point of Expo Zaragoza 2008), cities that
live (Ciudad Creativa Digital, a creative hub in the City of Guadalajara). Carlo
Ratti Associati’s collaborators include Cassina, Artemide, Trussardi, Hotpoint
Ariston, Royal Carribean.
Carlo Ratti Associati has received numerous prizes, awarded twice Time
Magazine’s Best Invention of the Year. The studio’s work have been featured in
influential exhibitions (Venice Biennale, Istanbul Design Biennale, MoMa in New
York, MAXXI in Rome, and Google I/O in San Francisco) and international
publications (New York Times, Boston Globe, Der Spiegel, Discovery Channel, BBC,
CNN, Corriere, Repubblica, Domus and Abitare).
